Need For Speed Shift – Chris Rado

In the beginning of June, I got to shoot with a RED One camera for a Need For Speed Shift promotional spot. The shoot was following Redline Time Attack driver Chris Rado in his Scion Tc. The event was held out at Willow Springs International Raceway aka the fastest road in the west- and a place I’ve shot many times before.

Shooting with the RED One was awesome. Now that Need For Speed has released their edits with some of my footage- I’m excited to see what they used of mine! The shots of Chris tightening down his lug nuts and sitting by his rig were mine and were with the RED One and a 100mm prime lens. They turned out stellar. Also some of the action shots, like the down hill away from camera shots from turn 5/6 are mine as well. Overall the spot is my favorite of the 4 Need for Speed promos- Chris’ interview was long and interesting, but for a promotional spot- I thought it might be hard to pull a few good sound bites from- the editors on this spot did a great job capturing Chris’ personality, while still pulling some of the best in-car, on-car, and interview clips to make a cool vignette on Mr.Rado’s driving style and passion for driving.

Now if RED cameras were only a little bit easier to shoot hand held…

Two camera shoot for the interview segment of the video. Two RED One cameras. My shot is the medium shot used in the video- while Tripp Rhame of Spitfire Studios (what up guys!) has the close up.
