A Day with Will – Hill Climb Practice

pikespeak-18

The race to the clouds, climb dance, Millen’s mountain – Pike’s Peak.

This week has passed by quickly. Just a few days ago, we arrived in Colorado Springs in the RMR/Red Bull Rig – now its the eve of the Hill Climb itself. I’m excited. Here is the past week of practice and having fun with Joshua Herron, Grady Nguyen and Linhbergh Nguyen.

Beware Big Foot roams Pike’s Peak. Practice day #1 the W’s.

I’ve never felt like 9am was late. Until being up since 3am. Its amazing how much you can accomplish before noon.

pikespeak-3

The picnic table at the Green Willow Motel caught my eye. The green grass is sharp in contrast to the layered and peeling red table.

What do you notice first in this image? The stop sign?

Lady bug on a stick, in the stream, in Colorado.

pikespeak-6

Rolled up jeans, really liking the cold stream.

Hobo Herron testing out my Letus 35 on his Panasonic HMC-150.

Imagine me trying to raft down this creek. With a cowboy hat on. Yes, it did happen.

This week has been exceptional. Hanging out with Hobo, Linhbergh, and Grady has been refreshing.

As a result of constructive feedback, I’m taking a different approach to my point n shoot blog photo processing.

Previously, I would have attempted to make most of my images HDR like- and boosted the “fill light”.

Thanks to these guys for their opinion and inspiration to try new things. Critically examining your workflow, creative process, and de-constructing your personal aesthetics will only improve your comprehension of self style- which is important to me. Why do I do things the way I do them? Why does my cinematography look a certain way? by the way, this photo makes me laugh. The reverse of it, can be found on Linhbergh’s blog.

Another interesting cat, Joshua Hobo Herron. Here he’s shooting an interview with Rhys Millen.

pikespeak-12

With the Letus 35 adapter, FD mount, and Canon 1.4 50mm prime- the footage looked sweetly cinematic.

At the Manitou Springs Penny Arcade. Everyone on the motorcycle. This really makes me laugh.

End of Friday was the Pike’s Peak Fan Fest in downtown Colorado Springs. Rhys was posted up by the Genesis signing posters for fans. While I managed to beat Hobo at rock climbing, eat some great chili, drink mad amounts of energy drink, and come to the sad realization that girls in Colorado Springs seem to like Bros. And that bro culture is spreading like wildfire outside of the 909- Riverside area. I saw more guys with bad tattoos, energy drink hats, motorcross gear, and lifted trucks than a Puddle of Mudd concert in Riverside, CA. Sad but true. Maybe its time to get pierced, tatted, and trade in my fixed gear for a dirtbike… do a wheelie.

awerest - "What do you notice first in this image? The stop sign?" (sorry for my english) I didn't see the stop sign until read your phrase...

Jason - In the last photo you can see me and my buddies waiting to talk to Rhys. Small world!

Will - Very small world Jason! The Fan Fest in Colorado Springs was super fun. Chili, dirtbikes, free energy drink- what more could you want!?

Jason - Ya it was awesome! These pictures are amazing too. You do extremely good work.

TOm - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BRO CULTURE. I die a bit everytime I see one.

Will - AHHHH, indeed. CoSprings was a bit of Bro-mageddon!
