Letus Extreme + Sony EX1

Darren McNamara Interview after his First Victory

Setup used for interview footage:

  • Sony EX-1 camera
  • Letus 35 Exteme Adapter with FD mount and Sony EX1 optimized achromat mount
  • Canon 135mm FD lens

Shot by Will Roegge (me) edited by Joey Redmond (wrecked magazine).

This interview with Darren McNamara was shot after Darren’s victory at Formula Drift New Jersey. New Jersey was my first time using the Letus 35 Extreme adapter in the field. I was very impressed. The beginning of the interview is a little bit soft as I tried to find the proper focus on Darren’s eyes- but it moves into correct focus later in the interview. I really like the bokeh that the 2.8 135mm Canon FD lens produces.

Shot with natural/fading daylight at the end of the day 1080/24p 1/48th shutter. Not positive if Joey ran the video through any kind of color correction or color grading, but the overall softness and look helps to compensate for the Sony’s “digital” sharpness and produces a very filmic look that is very beautiful.

The 135mm lens also means that I was a good 8-1oft from Darren while shooting the interview- which can be a little bit off-putting for the subject. Considering that they are used to have the camera close to them on a wide lens. I found that most drivers/subjects intentionally move closer to the camera trying to close the gap- not realizing that the focal length is so long and that the shot is already a close up.

Stay posted for more from my Letus 35 Extreme Adapter.
