A Day with Will – Venice, Italy

italy2009_venice-14

The Grand Canal runs through the lagoon, between the islands, and under the Rialto Bridge. Each of the wooden posts that support the buildings of Venice have become petrified in the salt water and have become as hard as stone. Is the city sinking? No. Maybe not, but the extreme high tides of the sea have caused flooding to the city over the years. There are no cars. None. No bicycles. No skateboards. Just a busy canal with many docks and boat stops for the boats that navigate the canals.

The color of the water is the first thing I noticed. Its like nothing else. Its beautiful on its own. Its a pale greenish-blue.

So come with me – for an hour in Venice, Italy.

Apparently no one told the sign makers how much fun it can be to stand on the water bus.

Ferrovia station, early on in the stops.

The overcast skies do no justice to the water color.

Gondolas seem more iconic than functional.

You have seen this bridge in thousand romantic comedies.

I particularly like decay. There is more beauty in the breakdown.

Prosciutto, Salame, Mortadella? Sounds like an Italian sub to me… I could get used to this kind of food.

The color.

A couple of private bridges to residences. Exposed brick.

Joey Redmond - I like it, keep the photo blog coming! I am only one week away from Italy myself.
