Here is a prime example. Pulled down 5 clips provided by Maserati on their new 2009 Quattroporte Sport GT S. Grabbed a royalty free mp3 with a runtime of 1 minute. Jumped into final cut. Matched cuts to beats in the music track. Used every ounce of driving shots provided. The source footage was not very exciting. Well executed shots, but not very high impact or speed. After locking down the edits. I color graded in Final Cut using Magic Bullet Looks 1.2 – Increasing the contrast and adding a blue tint to the shadows and overall gamma. Small amount of diffusion on the highlights. The overall image makes the black Maserati look sharper and have a better range of blacks/grays in its paint- which is better than the washed out and flat look the source footage had.
