It all started Friday, when Joey Redmond hit me up and asked if I wanted to go to Fontana Drag Strip Saturday. Fontana is one of the few remaining quarter mile drag strips in southern California. I had been there once before, for Battle of the Imports. This trip was to watch Formula D Pro Chris Forsberg run his competition Nissan 350z on the strip.
Crossing over to a different form of motorsports is nothing new- but using the same car is mind blowing. Check out these images from the weekend. Hats off to Chris, Kevin, and Sergio for running an 11.9 on their first pass- without nitrous. If the weather held up, I’m sure that time would have dropped by a second! A 10 second drift car- impressive.
Hurry up and wait. The lines were long and the junior dragsters had to qualify- all before Chris’ pass.
Familiar FD car.
Unfamiliar drag slicks.
Drift Alliance.
Clouds and snow in the mountains.
Forsberg looking worried. Getting up early and having to wait around for your class, then rain delays, and the usual oil spills on the track.
Overall awesome day. Nice to finally meet another Formula Drift team!
I think 2009 could be Forsberg’s season. Considering the car changes the other top drivers are making this year- staying in the same car and adding more power is a good recipe for success. As other drivers work out the kinks, I think podiums are in the cards for this team.
